Tension builds within the muscle fibers and fascia, leading to palpable bumps in the soft tissue. "Knots" are commonly found in the neck, shoulders and back - although they can form in any area of the body. Our muscles respond to all types of stress, physical, emotional and mental. Our bodies need balance in all forms. When we exert ourselves, we need to take time to rest, alternatively when we are sedentary, we need to create movement. Our emotions need to maintain balance as well. Recognizing our feelings and welcoming them as they come is an important part of health. Mental stress can also present itself in the structures of the body. When we are mentally strained, we need to balance the overload with enjoyable experiences.

Massage therapy can play a role in creating balance from stress. Regularly working the soft tissues of the body to relieve tension created by different types of stress.
